You know, they say you've made it when you've been spoofed on SNL or lampooned on Leno or Letterman. I think this means I'm accepted by my peers. This is Kline in his best tourmangler impression, complete with fedora, radio, blackberry, glasses, pearl snap and even finger point to the imaginary watch (now, so dubiously called, "Do The Jordan"). Endearing it was.
We started the week with Blake in Richmond, VA. Great night, we had about 5000 paid. Fire marshall was a dickhead, but what's new there? Although I fought a very convincing battle against him, it's hard to win when your opponent holds the whole deck. He was worried, and for good reason I'm sure, that the 4000 screaming 12 year old females would pose a significant threat to show security, so he opted for the 3 foot barricade to protect us all...especially Al.
From Richmond we headed to what I must say was the easiest corporate show we've ever done...a birthday party for a girl of an EXTREMELY wealthy family in Washington D.C. The mom is Catherine Reynolds, who has been featured on 60 Minutes a couple times, she's a huge philanthropist for the arts. ML and Michelle Branch played the show together. It was really good to see Michelle, she's a total sweetheart and has a good crew with her. We all got good green room hang time in between the show. Speaking of screaming females, I did mention the birthday party was for a 16 year old girl, right? Yeah, so it was pretty rocking with kids piled to the stage singing every word.
Our dear friend Travis Howard came out to the show as well. Travis is mending a broken heart, nothing to help you through that like life at the Willard Hotel and 60-70 16 year old girls. Kidding, Travis would never stoop lower than 17. It was great to hang with him over that day and he and ML sat up late playing tunes. Then I awoke at home. I need to start clicking my heels together three times, maybe that would work and we could skip the bus rides.
