So the Reno show went well. Eddie did a great job filling in. Show really rocked, buffet was decent but it's been a while since we've had a great casino buffet. I think quality is falling across the board at casino buffets in general.
Eddie had a show with Dwight on Saturday so Chris Kline was tapped for filling Scotty's parts during the show. About 90 mins before the show, I get a frantic call that a window has been broken on our band bus. I race to the bus to find that, indeed, a window had been broken on our band bus. Shocking. Apparently, it was some kind of weird pressure issue and it's a one in a million thing that just happened. So we began to deal with it and try and find a replacement. We finished the show and prepared for our day off at Konocti Harbor the following day (Sunday).
I woke early and grabbed breakfast and hit the marina. I got a boat and made a few turns around the lake. It was a little chilly, so i headed back after about an hour. Our drivers met me on the dock and had located a window in Ontario, CA (about 9 hours away). We devised a plan that we'd fly Chris Newsom to pick up the window and he could drive it to Fresno. I booked him a flight out of the nearest airport, Sacramento, and arranged everything for "Operation Window."
We departed Kelseyville around noon and I made it to Sacramento and dropped Newsom at 1:50 at the airport. I began my drive back to the resort. About halfway thru the mountainous drive, I stopped at a Shell gas station on the side of the road. They had a small eatery in the back and I got a grilled Green Chili burrito. As I got back in the car with my lunch, I then realized how odd this whole thing seemed. I'm driving a guy across central California in a borrowed car to an airport so he can fly across California and pick up a bus window and drive it four hours to the next gig. I can't recall my job interview for this gig, or any of my previous jobs, but I don't remember that ever being a qualification or in the job description. I think it falls under "OTHER."
To make a long story even longer, the glass company showed up today to install and the window didn't fit. So all of our hustle and bustle was for naught. A sad ending to the tale.
In lighter news, Scotty Wray is doing better. He came out of his surgery today and they'd had to do a quadruple bypass. The doctor said it went better than expected and hopefully Scotty is on his way to recovery.
We're about 90 mins from showtime and I need to get ready.
